Walks & Outdoor Environment

Leash behavior:
When she first arrived, she was not used to walks and pulled strongly on the leash. Now she walks very well without pulling.

Reactions during walks:
Stella shows interest in unfamiliar people.
She can be a little scared of passing cars but wants to approach people.

She has not had direct face-to-face encounters with other dogs while on leash, so her reaction is uncertain. She once met a loose neighborhood dog and did not bark or act defensive.

If secured with a seat belt in the back seat, she settles in and rides calmly.

Reaction to outside noises (cars, motorcycles, construction):
She is not easily frightened. Even when large trucks pass nearby, she remains calm and quietly looks outside.

She has not experienced these yet.

If another dog approaches while she is eating, she first gives warning signals. If ignored, she may give a warning snap.

Training & Handling

Basic commands:
She knows sit and wait.

Mouthing or biting:
She may show defensive snapping around treats, but it is manageable and not severe.

Grooming:
She loves brushing. Nail trimming has been difficult because she will not stay still yet. Bathing has not been attempted yet.

At the veterinarian:
She is not very wary of people, so examinations are generally easy.

Behavioral Concerns & Notes

Main concern:
She needs to continue learning to calmly wait for treats around other dogs.

Training in progress:
She is practicing waiting calmly at a distance alongside other dogs before eating treats.

Important notes for adopters:
Because she is very energetic, adopters should be mindful of her strength—especially when she suddenly pulls or jumps.

Rescue History

Stella was rescued from a place where an elderly man raised dogs for meat in cages and also ran a goat farm. The dogs there changed frequently.

Rescuers discovered the location and managed to rescue six dogs, though sadly two could not be saved. The man promised not to keep dogs again, but several months later Stella was found tied up there AGAIN.

Ideal home:
A home with a yard would be ideal so she can comfortably go outside to potty.

Suitable for first-time dog owners?
She may be better suited for adopters who have experience with medium or large dogs.

Adjustment advice after adoption:
She will likely warm up to her new family quickly. With gradual exposure to a new environment, she should adapt well without major issues.
